Car wash helps youngsters raise funds
A marathon two day car wash at mhs homes’ head office, has helped teenagers Lewis Chapman (15) and Jaime Brockwell (16) to raise over £500 for a trip of a lifetime.
The two students from Chatham Grammar for Boys are planning to take part in a four week educational, World Challenge expedition to Tanzania in July 2010 with a team of 15 others. Jaime said, "We need to raise £4,095 each to take part. So far we’ve done sponsored runs, held BBQ’s and helped out at athletic meetings selling food. We’ve also sent letters out to local companies asking for help and mhs was the first company to come back to us."
mhs commercial had its fleet of corporate vans washed by the boys. Lewis said, "My Dad was working with mhs commercial on a project so I thought I would get in contact. I knew of the company anyway because my Grandad, Fred Chapman was an Inspector for them for 40 years. I wrote to John Sands and we were really pleased to hear that he was happy to sponsor us for £200 and suggested that we might like to wash cars for staff to raise extra cash. It’s been hard work but we’ve raised an additional £351 which is fantastic. We are hoping to do a lot more events throughout next year to reach our target and are open to offers."
The team of youngsters will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for 6 days like the 9 celebrities who did it last year for Comic Relief. They will also be working on a local community project in Tanzania to build a sustainable vegetable garden and will get a chance to go on safari.
Carl Dewey, Director for mhs commercial said, "We are really happy to support the boys. They have certainly worked hard on all our vans and have made them look great. They are going to have an amazing time on this trip and we wish them luck in raising all the money they need."
