Foyer residents celebrate achievements
Young people from the Endeavour and
Springboard foyers gathered together to receive certificates for
completing courses in First Aid run by Mediaid, a unique life
skills course – Learning Power Award, and for taking part in a
cultural competition run in conjunction with the Co-op.
Councillor Ted Baker presented each
young person with their certificate and was the guest judge for the
cultural competition. He said, "I had a very difficult job judging
the poetry, short stories and art that was entered in the
competition. All of the entries were extremely good, well done to
everyone who took part"
The mhs Foyers have been running the
Learning Power Award, accredited by City and Guilds for the past
eighteen months. This unique course is designed to help residents
identify specific areas of their lives which they feel could be
improved upon by appropriate levels of support and encouragement
and enables them to develop the skills necessary for independent
living.
Aaron Sears, 19 said, "Since
completing the award I feel more organised and ready to live on my
own. I have already planned in advance what needs to be done for my
move into my flat and I am very proud of these achievements which
are helping me to move on."
Liz Davies, Manager at the Endeavour
Foyer said, "We are thrilled that our foyers have one of the
highest success rates for the Learning Power Award in the country
with a pass rate of over 80%. Despite many personal difficulties,
our residents have shown that, with hard work they can achieve
their goals and we are very pleased and proud of all of them."
