Environment

An enthusiastic approach to energy efficiency and sustainability at mhs homes has led to success in the improvements and developments we have made.

We have actively encouraged energy efficient measures in our homes through heating, insulation, energy efficient lighting and the installation of solar panels to heat water.

For further information read the mhs homes environmental policy and mhs homes environmental strategy.

Here are some suggestions as to how you can make a difference and save money at the same time!

Turn your lights off when the room is empty

Fit an energy saving light bulb it will last ten times longer than an ordinary bulb

Switch off electrical appliances when not in use and avoid leaving them on standby, power adapters can now be bought which can do this for you automatically

Turn your central heating thermostat down by 1 degree, it could save up to 10% on your fuel bills

Shut fridge and freezer doors and defrost regularly it will help improve them run more efficiently

Always try to have a full load of washing in washing machines, dishwashers or tumble driers, if not try an economy or half load setting

Use a water butt to collect rain water for watering the garden

Use a water saver in your toilet to conserve water such as: Hippo or Flush Saver Bags

Turn off the tap when washing your teeth

Arrange for leaking/dripping taps to be repaired

Fit draught excluders especially over letter boxes
