Become an Estate Champion!
Have your say on how your area is
managed!
What is an Estate
Champion?
An Estate Champion is a
volunteer that offers a link between your local area
and mhs homes. They are invaluable as they help
us to monitor issues such as litter, graffiti
and communal repairs.
Each Estate Champion has a dedicated
contact at mhs homes to report any issues relating to their
area. Estate Champions also attend Estate Walkabouts with the
local housing officers and other residents to highlight
any problems. This encourages residents
in their neighbourhood to talk to each other about the
issues that are affecting them.
Who can be an Estate
Champion?
Anyone who lives in an mhs
homes property can volunteer to be an Estate
Champion!
If you decide to join the Estate Champions you
will be required to;
- Authorise a Criminal Record Bureau (CRB)
check to be carried out - which mhs can arrange and pay for
- Sign an agreement that
will confirm you are willing to adhere to the groups policies
and standards
- Attend regular meetings
Why become an Estate
Champion?
Have more involvement within your local
area, to help make sure the area remains clean and tidy, or if you
live in a block of flats to log repairs on behalf of the
block, or even just to help maintain the high standards we would
all like to see.
Some Estate Champions are
volunterring for training programmes
that will enable them to assist their fellow residents on a
variety of subjects, including energy efficiency in the home and
advice on what local support services are available for residents
to access in times of need.
The group also get involved in improvement
projects; currently they are looking for potential sites
with the Kent Wildlife Trust to develop Gateway Gardens as
part of their living landscape programme, see the
KWT
website for more details. This project aims to plant new
gardens in communal and public spaces that encourage more
wildlife, and improve the look and feel of local areas for
residents.

Helen Farbrace the Partnering Manager has said of the Estate
Champions:-
"Our Estate Champions can really add value to the environmental
services we already provide for our customers. We are lucky
to have this committed team who care about the quality of life for
residents on our estates. By working in partnership with our
Quality Team, this group is able to influence our caretaking,
grounds maintenance and communal repairs service provision.
Together we can really make a difference."
