Ways to move home

Listed below are the different ways you can move into one of our properties:

  • Kent Homechoice
  • Mutual Exchange
  • Transfer
  • Sheltered Housing

Kent Homechoice

First, you will need to submit an application form to Kent Homechoice. Every week you can look through a list of available properties from social landlords. You can then let Medway Council know what properties interest you by phone, text, website, TV, in person or writing. Mutual Exchange

This is where you swap your home. You can swap with another mhs tenant, another housing association or local council. For more information, please see our Mutual Exchange page.

Transfers

If you live in a property that no longer meets your needs, you can apply to transfer to another mhs homes property. If you need to move due to the Welfare Benefit Reform or you live in a 3 or 4 bedroom property and want to downsize, take a look at our Transfer page to find out what you need to do.

Sheltered Housing

If you are over 55, you can apply to live in sheltered housing. We offer studio flats, self-contained flats and bungalows. All schemes have a Support Officer available to support you with living independently. Most of our schemes organise social events providing the opportunity to get to know your neighbours. Moving away from mhs homes

Please be aware that if you choose to give up your tenancy and move out of your mhs homes property you need to give 4 weeks notice in writing. Find out more by visiting our Moving Away from mhs homes page.

Any spare rooms?

Are you living in a 4,5 or 6 bedroom house with rooms to spare?

We offer a financial package if you downsize to a smaller property. Take a look at our Spare Rooms page for more information.

Please be aware that Housing Benefit will only pay towards your rent for the rooms that you need, having spare rooms could be costly to you.
