Lodgers and subletting
Lodgers
This is someone who lives with you, shares your facilities, but
cannot stop you from going into any of the rooms they use.
You can take in lodgers as long the property does not become
overcrowded. You need our written permission to do this.
Subtenants
This is someone who has their own self-contained part of your
home, may share your facilities but can stop you from going into
their part of your home.
You must not sub-let all of the property so that you no longer
live there. However, you can sub-let part of the property as long
as you get our written permission, and you do not make the property
overcrowded.
Benefits
Sharing your home with someone may affect any benefits you
receive. You must let your local benefits office know of any change
in circumstances.
