What is Anti Social Behaviour?

Anti social behaviour can mean different things to different people,

The crime and disorder act 1998 defines Anti Social Behaviour as:

"acting in an anti social manner is a manner that causes, or is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to one or more persons, not of the same household."

Anti social behaviour could include such things as:

  • Criminal behaviour (criminal damage)
  • Verbal abuse, or threatening behaviour
  • Violence against the person or property
  • Noise nuisance

What is harassment?

Harassment includes deliberately making someone feel alarm and distress by acts of behaviour. This can be because of their race or ethnic background, disability, age, sexuality, or other vulnerabilities.

Harassment is any unwanted behaviour that has the effect of violating dignity or creating an intimidating, hostile, humiliating or offensive environment.

What is Domestic Violence?

"Any incident of threatening behaviour, violence or abuse. This can be psychological, physical, sexual, financial or emotional."

It is between adults, aged 18 years or over, who are or have been intimate partners or are family members regardless of gender and sexuality. (Family members are defined as mother, father, son, daughter, brother, sister and grandparents, whether directly related, in-laws or step family).
