Leaseholders
What is a leasehold?
Leasehold flats can be in purpose-built blocks, in converted
houses or above commercial or retail premises.
The ownership of the property usually relates to
everything within the four walls of the flat, including floorboards
and plaster to walls and ceiling, but does not usually include the
external or structural walls. The structure and common parts of the
building and the land it stands on are owned by the landlord, mhs
homes, who is responsible for the maintenance and repair of
the building.
What is a lease?
The lease is a contract between mhs homes (the freeholder) and
you (the leaseholder) which sets out all rights and
responsibilities of both parties in relation to you owning and
living in the property.
Your home may be at risk if you do not follow the terms and
conditions of the lease or if you do not pay your service
charge.
