Frequently Asked Questions
Sheltered Housing
Can I have Pets?
We cannot accommodate pets as most of the accommodation is
communal and there are very few private gardens; unless you have
access to your own back garden pets would not be permitted.
What is included in my rent?
All residents are required to pay the service charge for
heating, water and sewerage within the Sheltered Schemes. The rent
will also include a Supporting People charge for the provision of
the support service.
What is the role of the Support Officer?
Support Officers provide a varied and wide range of services
designed to make your lifestyle more comfortable, secure and
hopefully enjoyable. They wil be in regular contact visiting you in
person and occassionally via the Lifeline alarm system.
What is the Supporting People charge for?
This charge on your rent is for the provision of a comprehensive
support service to all service users. This includes assessing the
needs of individual tenants, liasing with families and carers and
enabling service users to access community resources. Health and
safety checks are carried out for the individual and the scheme to
ensure that their home environment is safe ans secure.
Is there a laundry?
Yes there are communal laundries available for the use of all
residents which have both washing machines and tumble dryers .
There are no designated times for individuals but most schemes have
developed a rota system for residents which works well.
Is there added security?
All sheltered schemes have a secure door entry system, this
means the main entrance door shuts and locks automatically. Each
flat has its own intercom system which allows you to talk to
visitors at the entrance and open the door from your flat.
Do you have resident involvement?
In order to continually improve our service we will consult with
you on a regular basis to ensure we are providing this service to
your satisfaction. This could be through a resident editorial
panel, Speakeasy and the Sheltered Service Users Forum.
Am I responsible for repairs?
mhs homes deal with most repairs and maintanence issues,
although it is your responsibility to report the problem to our
repairs hotline.
