mhs commercial apprentice wins industry award
A trainee plumber has received a top industry award after
dramatically changing her career path and leaving behind her life
as an Equity Trader in London.
Caroline Bucknall, an apprentice
plumber with mhs commercial, was presented with the Charles Dingle
Cup by the Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineers after she
was nominated for the Apprentice of the Year prize.
Caroline is studying a City and Guilds
course in Plumbing at Mid – Kent College, a far cry from her
previous employment in the investment and banking industry.
Caroline said, "I wanted a job that would make it possible to move
back to the Medway Towns. I’m an outdoors person and wanted to do a
more physical job. I approached mhs commercial and now nearly two
years on I will be finishing my NVQ level three in June 2008."
Carl Dewey, Commercial Director for
mhs commercial said, "Part of our ongoing commitment within the
community, is giving talks and advice at local schools to pupils,
on the verge of choosing their careers, Caroline along with other
members of staff, give an insight into working within the
Construction Industry, and Caroline’s input to girls who may not
have considered Construction as a career is invaluable."
Caroline said, "I had worked for seven
years in the financial sector but wanted to get out and work with
the general public under my own initiative. The last eighteen
months as an Apprentice Plumber have been interesting, sometimes
challenging but very rewarding. It’s helped that I’ve learnt some
tricks of the trade from my colleagues along the way."
