BedRock, mhs homes bandmhs homes staff went going back to school

On 29 October, a unique event took place at a School in Medway, where Peter Cook, author of ‘Sex, Leadership and Rock’n’ Roll’ led 250 staff from mhs homes in a ‘back to school day’ for our Annual Conference which included live music from our own newly formed Rock band.

John Sands Chief Executive of mhs homes said, "Our Staff Conference is the one opportunity in the year for all our staff, wherever they work in the organisation, to meet together. I wanted it to be a mixture of fun, work and personal development, in an informal setting, to give people the chance to exchange views about work, challenges and opportunities that we face as a business. We wanted something inspiring this year and knew of Peter’s creativity and flair for co-ordinating events with a difference." He added, "Our theme was based on school days the same as our 2008 Annual Report which has been designed along the lines of a school report. In fact, as a 18 year old business, we’re just leaving school and going to university! We’re also coming of age as a business."

The band "BedRock" was formed from volunteers from within the organisation. They  have written a ‘double A side’ and have recorded them in a professional recording studio. On Wednesday 29th October, the band performed their songs at the start and end of the annual staff conference. The A side iof the CD s called ‘Regeneration’, based loosely on the classic song by 'The Who' with a George Gershwin flavour. The AA side, penned by the CEO is a bitter rant, entitled ‘The Credit Crunch Blues’.

The conference was directed by Peter Cook, Business Consultant and author of "Sex, Leadership and Rock’n’Roll", which is acclaimed by Tom Peters, the World’s Top Business Speaker.
