mhs rowers and walkersmhs charity challenge

Twenty two members of our staff will be either rowing or walking 55 kilometres from Maidenhead to Richmond in order to help raise money for our chosen charity for 2009, "Help for Heroes."

The two day charity challenge will see sixteen mhs employees rowing a traditional "rowing skiff" down the Thames. The staff members facing this challenge will include our present Chief Executive John Sands and the future CEO, Ashley Hook, as well as staff from across the organisation.

Linda Letch, mhs homes Support Officer said, "I’ve been training to build up my upper body strength, getting out in the garden as much as possible digging up the ground. It’s surprising how much exercise you can do with this. I’m looking forward to it but it’s certainly going to be a challenge."

mhs has incorporated a 55k walk with this challenge for members of staff wanting to participate in the event without having to take part in the row. Terry Burton mhs homes Administration Director and Secretary, who is leading the team of six walkers said, "We will be walking for two whole days travelling past sights like Windsor Castle. When the walk takes us near the river we will be shouting encouragement to our rowers and I’m sure we will get the same back. We will also be stopping along the way to have lunch all together, sharing our stories, so it will be very much a team effort."
