Helping hand for PDSA
Caring mhs homes staff spent a day helping at
the PDSA PetAid hospital in Gillingham.
Angela Yorke and Zoe Marden saw first-hand the dedicated work of
veterinary surgeons, nurses and support workers at the hospital, in
Campus Way.
It was part of mhs homes’ Day for Medway
scheme, which gives staff a chance to support community
projects.
The pair witnessed a delicate operation to repair a cat’s hip joint
and a successful biopsy on a suspected tumour on a dog. They also
helped out in the pharmacy and reception areas.
Angela said: “It was a really interesting day and a great
opportunity to see the really good work of the PDSA.“Some of it was
hard to watch, but the staff are really skilled and very, very good
at what they do.”
As part of the same initiative mhs homes
finance director Bruce Shelmerdine joined colleagues Deborah
Collinson and Sharon Guile in charity’s shop in High Street,
Chatham. The team helped with sorting donated goods and other
tasks.
Kit Lendon, PDSA’s volunteering development manager said: “We were
delighted mhs homes staff were able to see our work first hand and
help out on a practical level.
“Volunteering is a very important part of what we do, as we do not
receive any government funding and rely on the generosity of the
public.”
Day for Medway is part of the mhs homes Medway
Pledge with a vision to be the leading affordable housing provider
in Medway, transforming the lives of people living in the homes and
communities we serve.
