Football Team receive community chest grant

Star Sports Football team community chest grant“Star Sports” Football Team from the White Road Estate enjoyed a double celebration on a recent Sunday morning. Not only did they win one – nil against “Bredhurst Rovers” in the Combination Football League, but they were also presented with an mhs community charity chest grant of £800 to help pay for the running costs of setting up their team.

Bill Goldsmith, Star Sports Manager, Coach and Team Secretary was presented with the cheque from mhs homes Tenant Board Representative Pat Austin. He said, “I read about the community chest grant in my tenants magazine and thought it was worth applying for. We are a new team and have no sponsors so we needed some money to help us get off the ground. Our players range from 20 to 39 years old and love football so we knew we had enough people wanting to join the team. This grant is going to be a great help in paying fees and ground hire.”

Bill continued, “Applying for the grant was quite simple, although it was a little daunting to meet the trustees and explain why we needed the funding. I would definitely recommend it to others though as it is a great way of helping local community groups get started.”

Pat Austin, mhs homes Tenant Board Representative said “It has been great to meet the team, they all seem really close and love football. It’s encouraging to see a local community coming together and I’m really pleased mhs homes has been able to help.”
