Talkback celebrates 1st Birthday
A group of residents of mhs
homes have recently celebrated the first birthday of their own
special newsletter called Talkback.
The magazine was produced at the
tenants request by ‘mhs links’ the support service -provided by mhs
homes. The first issue went out to sheltered scheme residents a
year ago with a competition inviting them to name their own
newsletter. Brian and Brenda Barnes from Thorndike House in Chatham
won the competition with their suggestion of Talkback. One year on
and the newsletter is actually being produced by the residents
themselves.
mhs links, recently held the first
editorial panel for the Sheltered Housing magazine. The first
meeting coincided with the celebration of its first birthday and
everyone celebrated with a big birthday cake.
The aim of the editorial panel is
to give residents a platform to have their say about what they
would like included in the magazine from their landlord, chip in
ideas for future articles and also have the chance to write
articles for the magazine themselves..
This is just one initiative that
mhs homes is running aiming for higher resident involvement in
everything that it does.
Mrs Heather Vice (63) a resident of
Mimosa House in Strood who chaired the first meeting said, "I think
the new residents newsletter for sheltered scheme residents has
gone particularly well. Trying to encourage us residents to do
things together that we have not tried before is not easy and I
think mhs homes are doing it in a very gentle and encouraging
way,"
Talkback will be driven forward by
the residents of the sheltered schemes This editorial panel will be
running on a quarterly basis.
