Young designers win loads of prizes
Two young and talented designers
were presented with a load of goodies from local Ice Hockey team
Invicta Dynamos for designing a poster about anti-social behaviour
for mhs homes.
Nathianel McCarthy, 9 and Ieuan Evans,
11 from Melville Court, Chatham decided to take photos of the
issues that bothered them in their neighbourhood. Ieuan said, "We
went out with a camera and got pictures of graffiti, rubbish and
dog poo because this is the stuff that we really want to get rid of
where we play. We like taking photos and thought we would design
the poster together."
The competition organised by mhs in
conjunction with Invicta Dynamos, invited young mhs residents to
design a poster to help promote positive action against anti-social
behaviour. Nathianel and Ieuan were presented with tickets, a
jumper and hat with the logo and other merchandise by Invicta
Dynamos player Martin Rider. Martin said, "We do a lot of work with
schools to try and encourage more young people to take up Ice
Hockey. Our partnership with mhs homes is an extension of this
work. We want to provide a positive alternative to being on the
streets and getting into trouble."
Nathianel and Ieuan both students from
Brompton Westbrook School, in Gillingham tried on some of the kit
and shirts. Nathianel said, "I’ve never won anything like this
before, all the stuff is great. I’m looking forward to meeting the
whole team and going down to the Ice Bowl. It would be good fun to
have a go on the ice as well."
Georgina Messenger mhs homes
Anti-Social Behaviour Officer said, "We have sponsored the Invicta
Dynamos to help promote respect in the community and to encourage
another sporting activity for young people who live in our
properties. We will be giving the opportunity for our younger
residents to attend some of the Dynamos home matches free of charge
when the season starts again soon."
