mhs homes receives £1.5m government grant to build more new homes

mhs homes receives £1.59 million as part of the 2016-21 Shared Ownership and Affordable Homes Programme to help meet the diverse housing needs of the county.

Communities Secretary Sajid Javid has today unlocked £7 billion in a dramatic expansion of the government’s affordable housing programme to meet the diverse housing needs of the country.

A total of £1.28 billion has been allocated to housing providers announced today by the HCA. This follows the opening bidding round for the scheme in April 2016.

The allocation will enable us to get on with building the affordable housing needed in Kent and contribute to the regeneration of homes in Rochester.

Ashley Hook – Chief Executive mhs homes said: “This is good news for Kent. It will allow us to build more homes in places where they are most needed and contribute to meeting the diverse housing needs of our county”.

In Medway, where house prices are 11% below the national average houses are still 7.1 times the average salary making home ownership unaffordable for many.

The £1.59 million will provide 53 shared ownership homes in the heart of Rochester. The scheme which received planning in October will provide much needed high quality homes in the area. Work on site is forecast to commence later this year.

Kelly Tolhurst MP for Rochester and Strood said: “I am delighted that Rochester will benefit from this funding, which will allow for well-planned, affordable housing regeneration where it is needed most.

“At the start of 2017 this is a very welcome boost for struggling families in the community helping to make their dream of home ownership a reality.”
