Russell House – update February 2019

Russell House was opened in 1972 and is now 46 years old. It provides 29 flats – 24 of which are studio flats. Eight of them are vacant.

Studio flats can be very difficult to let. New tenants expect supported living to have at least one separate bedroom.

We met with residents in January to ask them for feedback about our plans to close Russell House.

The consultation period has ended and we’ve carefully considered the feedback from residents. We've made the decision to go ahead with the closure, on balance it was decided that Russell House is not suited to provide the standards required of modern sheltered accommodation.

We understand residents may be worried about this disruption. Our priority is to support them to find them another suitable home that meets their needs. We'll do all we can to support them and make sure their move goes as smoothly as possible. This includes helping them with moving costs and settling them into their new homes.
