Tenant Board Members

We have two tenants on our mhs homes group board and one tenant on our Heart of Medway Board.

Being a Tenant Board Member doesn't require any special training or qualifications plus we’ll pay you and cover your expenses.

Our boards meet to to:

  • Scrutinise what we do and how we do it
  • Make decisions about how we’re run
  • Help us do more of the things our customers like
  • Help us to get things right
  • Ensure we meet legal duties and keep to our aims and values

What can you do for the board?

  • Bring your own ideas
  • Challenge us
  • Help to shape our future

Who's on the boards?

You can see the full list of people on our boards and committees on our Meet team mhs pages but here's a brief overview below:

  • Lord Roy Kennedy is Chair of the Heart of Medway Board. There are currently six other board members including the Tenant Board Member
  • Both boards have a range of people with different skills, experience and great ideas

Is there support or training?

Yes. You’ll learn directly from staff members with an induction plan in place.

Plus, other board members and our Governance Team will be happy to help you get ready for meetings.

Application process:

The process to recruit Tenant Board Members is slightly different depending on if you're an mhs homes or Heart of Medway customer.

We want our board to reflect the diversity of our customers.

For mhs homes tenants:

We have two Tenant Board members and recruitment happens once a year for our mhs homes group Board:

  • Applicants must be named on a current mhs homes tenancy agreement
  • Application packs are sent to you in the post
  • You'll provide us with a written statement that explains why you think you’d be a brilliant board member
  • Our tenants will have the chance to vote for you in our ballot
  • The ballot is counted independently and the new Tenant Board Members are announced
  • Appointments are for one year and the Board meets ten times a year

The process for selecting the mhs homes Tenant Board Members takes place between April and June each year.

For Heart of Medway tenants:

  • Appointments are for three years
  • We contact our Heart of Medway customers and to encourage them to apply
  • We interview applicants that meet the criteria
  • The successful applicant is officially appointed to the Heart of Medway Board
