Mental health charity Mind announced as our new charity of the year

Mind, the mental health charity has been announced as our new charity of the year for 2019.

One in four people in the UK will experience a mental health problem in any given year, according to Mind

It’s our goal to raise as much money and awareness as we can, to help improve the lives of those experiencing a mental health problem.

Colleagues voted on which charity they’d like to support, out of nominations put forward from members of staff.

Mind was nominated by Hannah Gwilt, from our Asset Team. She’s delighted the charity was chosen as it’s one very close to her heart. She’ll be the charity representative for this year.

"When I found out that Mind had won, I felt so happy that not only will it give us a platform to create the awareness around mental health but also raise funds for such an amazing charity."

Almost nine out of 10 people with mental health problems in England and Wales experience discrimination in at least one area of their lives.

"We’re really pleased to be able to support Mind. This year we’re launching a Health and Wellbeing programme, focused around providing an environment where all staff feel able to talk openly about their mental health without fear of discrimination.

"By partnering with Mind we want staff and customers to feel supported and reassured that their mental health is hugely important and that we’ll support them however best we can".

Ashley Hook, Chief Executive

Mind provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. Because of Mind, millions more people have access to advice and support thanks to information and services nationally and locally, in England and Wales.

"We are delighted that mhs homes have chosen Mind as their Charity of the Year. This partnership will help us to reach a point where anyone with a mental health problem feels able to ask for, and access, the help they need.

"Money raised will help fund our vital work including our Mind Infoline, information and advice services, and our campaigning to ensure everyone who has a mental health problem gets support and respect".

Last year we raised more than £20,000 for Crohn’s & Colitis UK

Charity representative Hannah has already started planning for this year's fundraisers: “I’ve already started brainstorming ideas, including mindfulness classes during lunches and a karaoke night and more - mhs has so much talent”.
